Senior DevOps / Platform Engineer (f/m/x)
MAIA
About This Role
MAIA is the AI platform built for industrial companies, where generic AI tools break down because the data is complex, the stakes are high, and precision actually matters. We focus on the hard problems: integrating with real engineering workflows, understanding complex technical documents, and turning implicit organizational knowledge into something the whole company can build on.
Our goal is to become the leading AI knowledge management platform for industrial companies in Europe, built for the companies that shape the physical world.
Our team consists of structured organizational talents, creative minds, and technology-enthusiastic engineers, all with several years of experience in B2B SaaS and AI.
We are looking for someone ready to take full ownership of platform engineering for the first time at company scale, as our first dedicated Senior DevOps / Platform Engineer (f/m/x). This is a step up role for someone who has spent the last few years owning infrastructure inside a small engineering team and is now ready to be the person who runs the entire platform area independently.
Tasks
How we build
We make a clear distinction between where we want complexity and where we want simplicity. On the product side, we operate at the AI frontier: we build sophisticated RAG pipelines, work with the latest generation LLMs across multiple providers, and continuously experiment with new techniques to push what is possible in industrial AI. That is where novelty earns its place. On the platform side, we deliberately keep things simple. Docker Compose on Hetzner, not Kubernetes on managed cloud. Postgres for almost everything before we reach for another data store. Proven tools at the foundation, so the team can move fast where it matters. Simple does not mean lax: we hold ourselves to a high bar on security and reliability, and we are working towards ISO 27001 certification. If your instinct is to reach for the simplest thing that solves the problem, and you are excited to operate the infrastructure that lets product engineers build at the AI frontier, you will fit in here.
This is a senior individual contributor role with full ownership. Your mission is to make MAIA's platform reliable, secure, auditable, and developer-friendly, at a stage where every decision you make has lasting impact.
• You take full ownership of our infrastructure, Hetzner first, AWS, GCP, and Azure for selected services.
• You own our CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions) and deployment workflows, continuously improving rollout strategies, versioning, and rollback procedures.
• You build, improve and maintain our observability stack (Grafana, Loki, Sentry, PostHog), metrics, logs, traces, and alerting that surfaces problems before customers do.
• You operate and improve our self-hosted Postgres setup, backup and restore, performance, availability.
• You implement and maintain our security fundamentals: IAM, secrets management, TLS, vulnerability scanning, and patch management. As part of this, you implement the technical controls required for our ISO 27001 certification and ensure evidence is continuously and auditably produced.
Requirements
Technical requirements
• Solid experience running production systems on Linux servers you administered yourself, not only on managed services like ECS, Cloud Run, App Service or similar.
• Strong working knowledge of Docker and Docker Compose in production. Experience with reverse proxies and API gateways such as Traefik or Kong.
• Hands-on PostgreSQL operations experience: backup and restore that you have personally set up and tested, performance awareness, connection pooling.
• Proven experience with CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI or similar) and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Pulumi or equivalent).
• Working experience with an observability stack such as Grafana and Loki, Prometheus, or comparable tooling.
• Strong security fundamentals: IAM and least privilege, secrets management, vulnerability scanning, and patching.
• Fluent in English. German is a plus.
Ways of working
• Strong ownership mentality. You take responsibility end-to-end, without needing to be managed.
• People enjoy working with you, not just because of what you know, but because of how you interact with them.
• Pragmatic builder. You improve systems without adding unnecessary complexity, and you can defend why a simpler approach was the right call.
• AI is part of how you work, not just as a tool you use, but something you actively explore. You experiment with models, prompts, and workflows, and you have opinions about what actually works.
• You prioritize based on risk and business impact, not technical interest alone.
• Comfortable working in a fast-moving startup environment with ambiguity and shifting priorities.
• You communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Nice to have
• Experience with Hetzner specifically.
• Experience with self-hosted Supabase and Postgre...
