Role: Manager, State Advocacy Location: This role will be remote in the continental United States, Alaska, or Hawaii Reports to: Sr. Manager, State Advocacy Eligibility: Authorization to work for any employer in the United States is required. No Salary Range: $75,000 - $80,000 Summary: The Manager of State Advocacy will be responsible for helping design, build, and lead proactive state-level legislative strategies and campaigns related to youth online safety, state appropriations and grants, welcoming spaces for LGBTQ+ young people, and other priorities - bridging the gap between policy analysis and community action by keeping track of laws, building strong networks, and collaborating both internally and externally to protect LGBTQ+ youth. This includes expanding partnerships, working with key legislators and government stakeholders, building coalitions and relationships, tracking legislative activity and managing data collection, distributing Trevor-branded materials/research/talking points, and grassroots and grasstops mobilization. This role will also support state defensive policy priorities as needed. Roles and Responsibilities: • Monitor & Track: Keep a close eye on state and federal legislative movement, keeping a daily bill tracking system updated and organized. • Strategic Planning: Help build and execute the organization's policy goals and long-term advocacy strategies. • Content Creation: Write and edit policy memos, letters, talking points, reports, and public advocacy resources. • Partnerships: Build and maintain strong alliances with other non-profits, government officials, stakeholders, and key offices to strengthen advocacy efforts. • Public Representation: Serve as a spokesperson for LGBTQ+ youth by speaking at panels, conferences, and meetings. • Community Education: Educate policymakers, stakeholders and the public on LGBTQ+ policies and suicide prevention. • Cross-Team Alignment: Coordinate with internal team partners within Advocacy and other departments to keep projects aligned. • Project Management: Juggle multiple short- and long-term projects with high attention to detail and strong follow-through. • Team Leadership: Train, manage, and mentor volunteers and interns. • Demonstrate fair, ethical, and equitable business practices • Learn eagerly, share knowledge appropriately, and improve continuously • Demonstrate successful planning and problem-solving skills, including multitasking and working well within tight timelines • Work, communicate, and collaborate effectively with others • Demonstrate attention to detail and accuracy in all work • Demonstrate a commitment to fostering and maintaining an environment of diversity, inclusion, and belonging Minimum Qualifications: • Demonstrated experience working on legislative analysis, drafting, and amendment strategy in a state legislative or equivalent setting for 3-5 years. Experience with technology and appropriations policy at this level is ideal. • Demonstrated experience clearly and persuasively communicating complex ideas to different audiences in written, spoken and presentational formats for 3-5 years. • Demonstrated experience building trusted productive long-term relationships within organizations and with external partners to collaborate on advocacy initiatives with local, state, and national partners and have experience working with marginalized communities (e.g. LGBTQ+ people, communities of color, and people with disabilities, among others). • A demonstrable commitment to LGBTQ rights, youth mental health, or crisis intervention advocacy with an eagerness to grow support for LGBTQ rights among conflicted audiences. • Proficiency in: • Legislative Tracking Software: 1+ year of demonstrated experience in using legislative trackers to follow a hig...
